The MSAD27 Board of Directors has begun discussions about possibly moving grade 6 from Fort Kent Elementary to Valley Rivers Middle School with 7th and 8th grade. Earlier this fall, an MSAD27 Facilities and Programming Brainstorming plan was presented to the board outlining 4 goals, with the first being the priority of moving grade 6 to VRMS. Shortly after, an MSAD27 Facilities and Programming Timeline was created.
On January 23, an MSAD27 6th Grade Transition Stakeholders Planning Committee met for the first time to hear the plan and to provide feedback in the process. This stakeholder meeting included four parents of current 5th grade students, four district teachers, two district administrators, one guidance counselor, and one MSAD27 board member. The following agenda was created for the meeting. In addition to providing feedback, the group brainstormed Pros and Cons with respect to moving grade 6. The group also finalized a survey that we are sharing with you today.
Please note, a final decision has not been made on whether or not grade 6 will be moved from FKES to VRMS. We are encouraging any and all stakeholders in MSAD27 to complete the 6th Grade move survey so we can hear your feedback. The 6th Grade Transition Stakeholders Planning Committee plans to meet at the end of February to sort through the data in order to provide a recommendation to the MSAD27 board of directors for their next meeting on March 3, 2025.
We thank you for partnering with us on this initiative.
