Thursday, January 26 - Remote Snow Day

 Good afternoon Valley Unified Parents,

In preparation for Thursday's impending winter storm, all Valley Unified Schools will participate in a Remote Snow Day.  This means students and school year staff will complete their day at home, connecting remotely according to our Remote Snow Day Framework.  Please note that in order for this day to be in compliance with the Maine Department of Education requirements for a school day, as indicated in their January 3, 2023 Updated Information on Instructional Days, Rescheduling Instructional Time, and Waiver Requests Priority Notice,  a portion of the day must be devoted to teaching and learning.  Attendance with be taken on this remote day, according to the meeting requirements outlined in the framework.

  •

Meals: Please expect a Remote Snow Day meal survey from your child(ren)'s school(s).  Each survey will be specific to the school your child attends, so if you have children that attend more than one school, please take time to answer each survey.  Upon your request, your child will go home with a school breakfast and lunch tomorrow afternoon, to be consumed on Thursday during the remote snow day.
  • Technology: Your child's school will (or has already) communicated with you about your technology needs for this remote day.  If the school sends a device home with your child, please be sure to return that device the very next school day.
  • Communication: Please be on the lookout for a message from your child's teachers about how best to connect with them on Thursday morning, especially for our elementary aged learners.  Middle/High School learners will likely receive instructions from their teachers during the school day tomorrow.

We are thankful that we have the opportunity to conduct a Remote Snow Day as a regular school day, so that the day does not have to be made up in June.  We are also thankful for the technology resources we have obtained over the past several school years that makes these days possible.  Although Remote Days are not perfect, they still allow us to have access to education and services.

Please be safe on Thursday during the winter storm!
