Submitted by Mrs. Lorie Voisine - CHS English Language Arts Teacher
On Tuesday, May 8, fifty-five sophomores from the Fort Kent Community High School participated in job site experiences in businesses from Presque Isle, to Caribou, to Fort Kent, and finally, to Frenchville. Upon arrival at school, learners boarded several busses that brought them to their chosen job shadow destinations.
During their experiences, learners were asked to gather information about the type of schooling and training needed to complete the job they were shadowing, as well as challenges and perks of the job. Many occupations were shadowed, such as doctors, optometrists, chiropractors, firefighters, EMT / paramedics, veterinarians, animal groomers, florists, automotive technicians, heavy diesel mechanics, computer repair technicians, fisheries biologists, journalists, media production specialists, law enforcement officers, customs and immigration officers, culinary artists, social workers, and cosmetologists.
Learners enjoyed their experiences and had much to share upon their return to school. The tenth grade team of teachers attributes the success of this yearly program to the many businesses throughout the county who agree to host our students each year. Collaboratively, we can truly offer unique educational experiences for all our students.
