MSAD27 Position on the March 14 National School Walkout

As many of you have heard, there is a national movement for a student walkout that is being spearheaded by the Women's Youth Empower Group.  Although we will allow our students at CHS to walk out for 17 minutes tomorrow, please know that our district is not organizing the event, we are simply allowing the students to voice their First Amendment rights, and we are partnering with the Fort Kent Police Department to keep the students safe during this 17-minute period.

The district's position on this is simple: We are allowing students to use the forum as a chance to show support or the victims of Parkland and to rally for school safety.  This is about them and their safety. They are in schools every day.  They are right in showing support for school shooting victims and asking for school safety.  The district is not taking a position on guns or the second amendment. Likewise, the school is not organizing anything in regards to this walkout.  This is student led.

Thank you for your continued support.
