We have been monitoring the student counts on all buses this year. So far, the student counts on our busses have shown that we are functioning efficiently and within the bus capacities. Two bus routes that we pay close attention to are Bus 2, (which primarily serves the communities of Allagash, St. Francis, and St. John) and Bus 14, (which primarily serves the communities of Eagle Lake and Winterville.) Due to the long bus rides, we want to make sure students are comfortable and safe.
Although both buses have a capacity for 77 students, we recognize that students would not be able to sit comfortably with any more than 65. Bus 2 has been averaging about 55 students per day and Bus 14 has been averaging approximately 65 students. Based on these numbers, and being mindful that cold weather coming and students will be carrying many more items, we feel the need to lighten the load on Bus 14 to allow for extra carry on and space.
Beginning on Monday, August 29, 2016, we will extend another bus route, which will free up space on Bus 14, allowing the students to have a more pleasant experience on their bus ride to school and home. A letter will go home with the students who will have changes made to their bus schedules.
We thank all students and parents who have been patient these first 8 days of school while we have been monitoring and tracking student bus riding data in order to come to this determination. Our goal is to bring each student safely to school and return them safely home. Your continued support is appreciated!
