For today's district in-service day, the Curriculum Leadership Team for SAD27 planned for all teaching and teaching support staff to participate in a full-day program entitled, Chaos to Confusion: Brain-Based Strategies for Developing Social-Emotional Health. This program came highly recommended by Mr. Peter Caron who had participated in workshops offered by the facilitators, Michelle.Kinder, M.Ed., LPC and Heather Bryant, M.Ed. of the Momentous Institute in Dallas, TX.
According to a district memo sent out to all teaching staff which identified the key learning of the workshop, "Success in the 21st century is defined by the strength of our social-emotional health. Skills and characteristics like self-regulation, optimism, empathy, gratitude, and grittiness make all the difference for students, because social-emotional health is more predictive of long-term success than test scores or grades. For this reason, educators need concrete strategies grounded in neuroscience to help young people build and repair social-emotional health while also attending to their own social-emotional wellness."
Michelle and Heather provided our educators with a variety of activities and strategies that can be utilized in the classrooms and many teachers were anxious to get back to school on Monday to try them out!
SAD27 would like to thank Heather and Michelle for coming to our district and for providing us with this wonderful wealth of information and strategies!
