On the morning of Wednesday, September 21, 2016, the seventh grade class at Valley Rivers Middle School departed for Deboullie Mountain.
Upon arrival to the Perch Pond campsite, the students set up camp, which included the assembly of some 20+ tents.
Throughout the first day, students had lessons in North Maine animals, orienteering, forestry, and taxonomy. We also had guests from the Senior College join us for the fun and learning!
After a delicious dinner prepared by the Deboullie set-up crew, students also rehearsed and presented skits aligned to ecological awareness, and sang campfire songs (thanks to Mr. Charlie Ouellette).
After braving the Northern Maine woods overnight in the wilderness, and enduring the cooler temperatures and faint snoring (mostly coming from the chaperone tents), the students woke to another delicious meal of pancakes and sausage. They were then ready to tackle the mountain!
Our students took to Deboullie like champions! Although challenging at times, the students enjoyed every minute of the 4.5 mile trek, climb, and decent! They especially enjoyed the Deboullie Rock Slide!

Thank you to the wonderful MSAD27 staff that take the time to provide this experience to our students year after year. In education, we speak of the importance of establishing relationships and making connections with our students so that they know we care. For anyone who has or will attend this trip, you will witness teachers engaging with students, modeling positive behaviors, meeting their diverse needs, and showing students that they genuinely care. Thank you for all you do…thank you for being positive role models…and thank you for showing love to our students!
Also, thank you to the setup and cook crew: Jerome Ouellette, Steve Lozier, Shawn Jandreau, and Jake Robichaud!
