Important Safety Alert: Protecting Our Children from Online Threats

The Maine Information and Analysis Center (MIAC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is issuing a serious advisory for all families.

Violent online networks are increasingly targeting youth and vulnerable individuals, right here in Maine and across the nation.

These predators operate on platforms children often use, social media, gaming apps, and messaging services, including, but not limited to: Roblox, Minecraft, YouTube, Facebook, X, TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Telegram, Twitch, and Discord.  They use manipulation, threats, and blackmail to coerce children, often between the ages of 9 and 17, into disturbing and harmful acts. These include self-harm, cruelty to animals, and other acts intended to shame and control.
