MSAD27 Return to School Plan for 2021-22

August 17, 2021

Dear MSAD27 Family Members,

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we wanted to share with you our plan for the 2021-22 school year with respect to COVID-19 safety protocols and the recommendations from the US CDC.  Monday evening, this plan was presented to the MSAD27 Board of Directors where they approved it, knowing that the plan can and will change throughout the year as we make adjustments based on what is happening in our State, region, community and schools.  The plan can be viewed here: https://bit.ly/37Vt9pi

Here are a few highlights from the approved plan:

  • There will be no remote option for students as we believe children belong in school.

  • Mask use in schools will be optional and will monitor community spread of COVID-19, revisiting this determination as needed.  It will be recommended that non-vaccinated individuals wear a mask.

  • Masking on school buses is mandatory at this time.

  • School spread will determine if we have to move to a hybrid or remote learning option for the entire school.

  • The revised hybrid plan does not require students to connect to live classroom sessions.

  • School nurses are the qualified authority on required quarantine and required testing to return to school from illness.

  • Parents will be asked to enroll their children in an optional pool testing program to be conducted at the school.  Because our schools have optional masking, it is highly recommended you enroll your child(ren) in the Pool Testing program so we can be proactive with testing to avoid school spread.  More information will be coming from the school nurses on this.

  • Those who qualify for the COVID-19 vaccination are urged to do so.

More information about the return to school, including school-specific information will come from the office of the school principal.  Please keep in mind the back to school dates! We wish you a very happy and safe remainder of the summer break and we look forward to seeing your children in school this school year!

Sincerely,

Benjamin Sirois - Superintendent of Schools

Maine School Administrative District No. 27
